Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has heralded Ravel Morrison with praise

QPR boss Redknapp hails Ravel Morrison, but reveals youngster did not know who Paul Gascoigne was

Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has heralded Ravel Morrison with praise, but admits the mercurial midfielder did not know who Paul Gascoigne was until recently.
After such a promising start to life at the Hammers, which included a sensational goal at White Hart Lane, Morrison has since spent time on loan at QPR and this summer completed another loan move to Cardiff City.
The 21-year-old prodigy has had a rollercoaster ride of a life up until this point, and nobody – least himself – can be sure what the future holds.
Morrison impressed at Loftus Road last season as helped Redknapp’s side gain promotion, but the Hoops could not make the move permanent and Morrison returned to Upton Park.

Redknapp has revealed how Morrison influenced games in the Championship, even resembling him to the quality of Gareth Bale, but also spoke about a moment the 21-year-old revealed he did not know who former England international Gascoigne was.
Redknapp said to wrote in his book, A Man Walks On To a Pitch: “Lee Clark, the Birmingham City manager, said to Ravel that he was the best player since Gazza. His response: ‘Who’s Gazza?’
“Should that surprise us? Admittedly that World Cup in Italy is 24 years ago now, and Ravel is 21, but however long ago it was I think he can be expected to know who Paul Gascoigne is. But it does show you that when you’ve gone, when you’ve had your day, nobody cares.
“If Morrison had played consistently at his best, he might have gone to the World Cup; on his bad days you wouldn’t have put him in our reserve team.”
