Arsenal scouts watched Talisca in action for Brazil's U21s side against Bolivia last Friday ahead of a potential swoop in the upcoming winter transfer window.
Starsport revealed yesterday that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger would ramp up his pursuit of Talisca if out of favour winger Podolski decided to exit the club in the new year. looks set to do so after the Germany World Cup winner expressed his unhappiness at his current situation.
Podolski also insisted he will leave the Gunners if his first-team opportunities do not improve between now and the re-opening of the transfer window.
"I have assessed my position in the team, and it has to change now," he said.
"Let's see what happens in the winter. The fact is that I'm not happy with it, that's clear."
Arsenal will, however, need to fend off competition from Chelsea, with Jose Mourinho also keen on the signing the £17m-rated starlet.
