Reports: Manchester United dealt transfer blow as Real Madrid plan bid for Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan

European Champions Real Madrid are planning a £20million move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, dashing Manchester United’s hopes of landing the German, reports The Express.
Gundogan is a long-term target of the Red Devils, but they were unable to make a move for him due to a persistent back injury, that saw him miss his country’s World Cup triumph over the summer and all of last season – except for the opening game.

The 23-year-old is back in training in Dortmund and looks set to finally make his return this week, as Jurgen Klopp’s men struggle in the Bundesliga, as a result of injuries to key players and their form deserting them.
His club value him at £20million and Madrid are willing to pay anything to outbid United, dealing a blow to the Red Devils’ chances of landing the central midfielder.
United are, however, ready to pay big money for players, as they have shown over the summer, spending in excess of £150million over the summer, remodelling the squad that whimpered to seventh place in the Premier League last term.
Their willingness to pay high fees may see them compete with Los Blancos for the services of the talented German.
