Jamie Carragher has hailed Chelsea striker Didier Drogba as one of the best foreign players to play in the modern era of the Premier League. The Liverpool legend revealed that he puts Drogba over the likes of Luis Suarez, due to the fact the powerful striker scored in the biggest of games.
The Liverpool icon also labelled Drogba as “unplayable” on his day.
Drogba, 36, rejoined Chelsea this summer, after two years away from Stamford Bridge. The striker had spells away from London with Shanghai Shenhua and Galatasaray.
The powerhouse forward was incredibly successful during his first spell at Chelsea, a period spanning for eight years. Drogba won three Premier League titles at Chelsea, whilst winning one Champions League, three FA Cups, two League Cups and two Charity Shield trophies.
Carragher hailed the striker for his ability make the difference in the biggest games.
Carragher wrote in the Daily Mail: “He [Drogba] scored three winners in the FA Cup final, got the crucial goals in two League Cup finals and who could forget what he did in Munich in the Champions League final? At his best, he was unplayable.”
The Liverpool icon also explained why Drogba trumped the likes of Suarez, Sergio Aguero and Gianfranco Zola: “There were no shortage of contenders for this role, ranging from Eric Cantona, Gianfranco Zola and Dennis Bergkamp to Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero.
“But even though they were all better players, I kept going back to Drogba because he did what all strikers should do and that is score in the biggest games.” Carragher insisted.
Drogba will be hoping to win his fourth Premier League title this season, as Jose Mourinho’s new look Chelsea rampage through the division.
