Henk de Jong proud of compliment from Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal

SC Cambuur manager Henk de Jong has revealed the pride that he felt after being singled out for praise by his countryman and Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal.
The Red Devils chief has endured a difficult start to life in England’s top tier and his methods have failed to convince large sections of the footballing world, but his opinion remains well regarded in his homeland.
Van Gaal guided the Oranje to a third place finish in the World Cup this summer, employing a 3-5-2 formation, which was an unusual route to take given the country’s total football roots.
However, the fact that Van Gaal chose to comment on De Jong’s work with Cambuur after he oversaw their promotion to the Eredivisie the latter coach clearly regarded the compliment as a signal his career is progressing in the right direction.
“If such people make you realise that they recognise what you’re doing, it makes me very proud,” De Jong revealed.
Meanwhile, Van Gaal was in the Netherlands at an awards ceremony to see his new signing Daley Blind, who enjoyed an impressive debut against QPR, collect the award for the best player in the Eredivisie last season.
Although Van Gaal’s attitude is regarded as arrogant in England, he possesses many enviable traits that make him a figurehead amongst the Dutch footballing community.
