Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has insisted that Chelsea FCdidn’t show any intention to win the match.
Manchester City hosted Chelsea in a crunch Premier League tie yesterday and the home side dominated most of the game from the start of the match. But despite their dominance, City could only manage a 1-1 draw as they went down to 10 men in the second half after Pablo Zabaleta was sent off. Andre Schurrle provided Chelsea with the lead as they took advantage of their numeric advantage, but there was a late twist in the tale as Frank Lampard came off the bench to score a late equalizer.
Manuel Pellegrini was disappointed with the draw as he felt that his side deserved to win. The Manchester City manager insisted that Chelsea didn’t show any intention to win the game and defended with nine men.
“I think it was very similar to the Stoke game,
“It was very difficult because they have very good players, but they had nine players in front of their box.
“We had chances, especially in the second half, to open the scoring, but we couldn’t do it.
“After they scored we showed our character, with the way we played with ten men.
“I think it will be very difficult to defend the title because teams are playing the way Chelsea played against us.
“I didn’t think they had an intention to win the game, just to score on the counter-attack.”
Pellegrini, who did not want to discuss Mike Dean’s decision to dismiss Zabaleta, added: “It wasn’t a pleasure to draw today.” – The Manchester City manager said after the match.
Frank Lampard, who scored the goal against his former club, was overwhelmed by the occasion, emotionally. The midfielder insisted that it was a difficult moment for him.
”It’s a really difficult one. I’d be unprofessional if I didn’t come on and do my job, so I was trying to get into the box and it was a great ball back from Milly.
“It’s a tough one for me. I had 13 amazing years with the Chelsea fans, so I am mixed with it. I am obviously pleased the team I play for got a draw.
“I am a little lost for words. I didn’t expect to come on and score like that.
“I came on and the Chelsea fans were singing, and that’s emotional. Then I am playing for this club, who have taken me in brilliantly as well, so I am really stuck in the middle here.” – The former Chelsea midfielder said.
