Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly still interested in appointing Arsene Wenger as their manager.
The French club put Laurent Blanc in charge of the first team in the summer of 2013 following the departure of Carlo Ancelotti to Real Madrid.
At the time it was widely reported that the former Manchester United defender was keeping the seat warm for Wenger, whose original deal with Arsenal was going to run out at the end of the 2013-14 season.
However, PSG’s Ligue 1 and Coupe de la Ligue triumphs last season combined with a run to the Champions League quarter-finals saw Blanc offered a new contract until June 2016.
Wenger too signed a new deal with Arsenal that will keep him at the Emirates Stadium until June 2017.
According to L'Equipe, PSG are still open to the idea of approaching Wenger and making him the new coach of the team.
Following PSG’s 1-1 draw with Ajax at the Amsterdam ArenA in the Champions League Group F on Wednesday, doubts have risen among the club’s officials over PSG, claims the French sports daily.
Blanc’s supposed failure to criticise the big names in the team and not play star striker Edinson Cavani alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic are key reasons put forward for the PSG officials’ doubts.
It has been claimed that PSG have always wanted either Wenger or current Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, and there have been suggestions that they could make an approach.
However, at the moment neither manager looks a feasible option. While Mourinho seems settled at Chelsea after returning to the London outfit last summer, Wenger is unlikely to leave Arsenal anytime soon despite the disappointing start to the 2014-15 campaign.
