Arsenal are said to be extremely interested in making a bid for Barcelona midfielder Sergi Samper who has been likened to former Arsenal and Barca star Cesc Fabregas.
The Metro reveals that Arsene Wenger is prepared to match the 19-year-old’s release clause currently set at £9.6million when the transfer window reopens in January, as reported by Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.
Samper has been likened to Fabregas because of their similar play-maker tendencies, a comparison that is likely to excite Arsenal fans having regarded Fabregas as one of the best midfielder’s to grace the club in recent history.
According to the article, the signings of Hector Bellerin and Jon Toral from Barcelona will be used to tempt Samper into a January move.
Relationships between the two clubs are strong, as seen by the regular transfer activity of youngsters making the switch to the Emirates, as well as Alexis Sanchez’ summer move and the previous departures of Alex Song and Fabregas to the Nou Camp.
