Laurent Koscielny reveals why Arsene Wenger lost it with Jose Mourinho during Arsenal’s defeat at Chelsea

Laurent Koscielny has lifted the lid on Arsene Wenger’s touchline confrontation with Jose Mourinho during the fiery London derby between Arsenal and Chelsea.

The pair were embroiled in an unsavory shoving match midway through the first half after Alexis Sanchez received a heavy challenge from Gary Cahill, and defender Koscielny admits this is what sent Wenger over the edge.

‘There is a long history of bitterness between them,’ he said.

‘The coach (Wenger) was upset because three days before Alexis Sanchez had received the same challenge against Galatasaray (in the Champions League) and then the player had also only received a yellow card.’

When quizzed on his own part in the 2-0 defeat – notably his latest offence in the penalty box – he said: ‘If only I could give them away when we are leading 4-0!

‘Unfortunately, we do not choose. It’s something I have to resolve earlier in the play.

‘Hence, either I let him score or I try to get the ball. I do not pass judgement on what you think of my games or my mistakes.

‘The most important thing is to be good for Arsenal. Everyone makes mistakes, you have to recover.’
