Chelsea legend Petr Čech has hinted he will look to leave Chelsea as early as January if he continues to remain backup to Thibaut Courtois.
The 32-year old shot stopper found himself ditched in favour of the Belgium number one at the start of this season after being Chelsea’s regular first choice for 10 years.
Petr Čech has made nearly 500 appearances in all competitions for the West London club since joining from French Ligue 1 side Rennes back in 2004. He made his first Premier League appearance of 2014-15 in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Arsenal this weekend after Courtois went off in the first half with a head injury.
Sky Sports have quoted Čech on Czech Radio as saying:
“I think they know me well enough at Chelsea to know that the situation is definitely not the way I would imagine.“With the European Championships in 2016 and the national team in mind, there is no time for me to sit on the bench and not to play.“If the situation will not start to improve for me then I will want to solve it.”
However, the experienced goalkeeper admits he has not spoken to any club official regarding his future:
“I have not spoken to anybody at the club but if the situation will not start to improve for me then I will want to solve it.”
Thibaut Courtois’ head injury is not thought to be serious and is expected to play for his national team in their upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers against Andorra and Bosnia and Herzegovina over the coming week.
Petr Čech has made 481 appearances for Chelsea having joined the club more than a decade ago. He was won the Premier League on three occasions, the FA Cup four times and was Chelsea’s starting goalkeeper in the 2012 UEFA Champions League penalty shootout victory over Bayern Munich.
