Borussia Dortmund are having a torrid start to the season which would give even Manchester United fans nightmares. The Bundesliga side are currently thirteenth in the table and are closer to the relegation places than challenging for anything worthwhile. Whilst Jurgen Klopp's future isn't under pressure, it's clear that there's a cloud hanging over Dortmund and perhaps it's a weather system which has been building for quite some time.
Losing one of the club's best players every summer, often to rivals Bayern Munich, was never going to be a recipe for success and it was only the ability of Klopp which was keeping things together. Lesser players were able to up their level and provide but injuries recently have seen Dortmund genuinely struggle. Shinji Kagawa's triumphant return was short lived but the German club will still hope they can turn Kagawa back into their star player.
German newspaper Bild have spoke to Sir Alex Ferguson about Kagawa and why the player failed to make the grade at Manchester United. Kagawa's inability to shine for the Premier League club was a puzzle to most but Ferguson has told Bild that it was simply the choice of David Moyes which led to the player's exit.
"Shinji is back in the environment in which he feels right. And he has with Klopp a coach who gives him the necessary self-confidence.
"I was very pleased with Shinji. He had settled in well with me, and I also had the feeling that he felt comfortable with us."
"Every coach has his own philosophy. As Moyes preferred the Spanish superstar Mata, Kagawa has felt that he is no longer first choice and was a bit resigned."
To be fair to David Moyes, Ferguson didn't exactly use Kagawa as one of his main players when at the club. The Japanese international is clearly happier at Dortmund than he ever was at Manchester United and has said himself that his heart remained at the German club despite his transfer to the Premier League.
