On this day: Salah shocks Chelsea and Wenger on Flamini

Let's cast our eyes back to this exact day, the 18th September 2014, but a year earlier.
What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?
Here are some of the big scoops from the 18th September 2013…
Wenger on Flamini
On the same day that Arsenal faced Mathieu Flamini's former side Marseille in the Champions League Arsene Wenger was admitting that he never had any intention of signing the midfielder when he invited him to train with the club at the start of the summer.
Flamini trained with Arsenal to keep fit after being released by AC Milan that summer. But Wenger admitted he was persuaded into signing him by the bullish Frenchman's performances on the training pitch:
"First of all I believe that he realised what he had here. When you're very young, it is difficult to understand what he had at Arsenal. I must say I was reluctant to sign him again but he was so honest in his statement that he wants to play the kind of football we play, that he wants to help us to win. He convinced me through his attitude and his desire in training that he will be the right signing for us."
Flamini had an excellent start to last season and is now considered a valuable squad member at The Emirates.
Salah shines
Jose Mourinho's Chelsea side suffered an embarrassing home defeat against FC Basel in the first game of the Champions League.
