Aston Villa defender Aly Cissokho has hailed manager Paul Lambert and his assistant manager Roy Keane, insisting that the duo are the reason why the Villains have been resilient at the back so far this season.
Villa have been brilliant in the opening four game, taking ten points from a possible twelve. They have conceded just one goal, against Hull City in a 2-1 win, which means they have the best defensive record in the entire division, all with Ron Vlaar still out injured.
Cissokho had a different sort of back-line last season when he spent a season-long loan spell at Liverpool. The Reds’ leaky defence became a common trait in their game, but the Frenchman has been crucial so far this campaign.
Cissokho joined the Midlands club this summer from Valencia and believes it has been crucial from the club to focus on defending in training.
The left-back praised Villa coach Lambert and Manchester United legend Keane for taking a real interest, telling reporters: “The coach and Roy (Keane) work a lot with the defence.
“The most important thing is to defend altogether then we can attack together. The back four have done well and we also have Ron (Vlaar) to come back soon. All the team are full of confidence.
“The back four, the three in the middle, and the three in the front give everything. After four matches we are unbeaten and to have ten points on the board is very good.”
